The PTA sponsors various programs throughout the year with the children in the classroom.

Environmental Awareness

The NHE PTA is committed to teaching our children about environmental awareness and striving to make NHE a green school. We do this with the following programs:

International Walk to School day
Wednesday, October 5th 7:30 - 7:50 AM

Join children and adults around the world to celebrate the benefits of walking.

Plan to be at school at 7:30 so you can join the early morning fun! Wear your NHE t-shirt or school colors! Make a sign, flag or banner to carry with you. ("NHE", "Let's Move!", "Walk!")

If it is too far to walk the entire way, then drive, park, and walk part of the way so you can participate.

You can organize a Walking School Bus. Stop at friends' houses on the way to school.

Why walk?

  • To enhance the health of kids
  • Increased physical activity can combat a host of health problems facing kids today. LET'S MOVE!
  • To improve air quality and the environment
  • Replacing car trips to school with walking or bicycling can help reduce air pollution.
BE SEEN and BE SAFE! Look before you cross streets.

NHE Earth Week - Earth Day is April 22nd

NHE Earth Week is a week of learning and participating in programs for our NHE families to do their part for the environment. Fun activities will be planned for the kids during this week to teach them more about what we all can do to help our environment.

Reflections

Reflections is an arts awareness program sponsored by the national PTA which offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition.

Students can prepare artwork in the categories of literature, music composition, dance choreography, film production, photography, and visual arts. Student projects will be judged at the school level and could go on to compete at the council, state, and national levels.

The 2011-2012 Reflections theme is "Diversity Means...". Entries are due 8 AM in their classrooms Friday, October 21st.

Visit the Texas PTA website for more information on the Reflections art program.
